1,000-home development for people 55+ breaks ground in Rancho Mirage

Active-adult developer Del Webb has started pushing dirt on its latest desert development: 1,028 homes near the Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa in Rancho Mirage.

Del Webb is the developer behind Sun City Palm Desert and Sun City Shadow Hills, which have nearly 8,500 homes between them. The Rancho Mirage project brings the developer’s footprint to about 9,500 desert houses, all for people 55 and older.

“Active adult communities” are age-restricted, but don’t have healthcare or assisted living facilities on site.

“We intend to continue our extraordinary success here in the desert resorts with a new community both we and the entire valley can be proud of,” said Chris Edgar, Southern California division president for PulteGroup, in a statement.
