December builder confidence drops another four points to 56

Builder confidence in the market for newly-built single-family homes fell four points to 56 in December as concerns over housing affordability persist. Although this is the lowest HMI reading since May 2015, builder sentiment remains in positive territory.  The index measuring current sales conditions fell six points to 61, the component gauging expectations in the next six months dropped four points to 61, and the metric charting buyer traffic edged down two points to 43.

December Markit PMI Flash Report shows boost in manufacturing offset service sector slowdown

The December Composite PMI Output Index dropped to 53.6 from 54.7 in November, for the weakest expansion of private sector output since May 2017.  A strong increase in manufacturing production growth was offset by a slowdown in service sector growth, its weakest in 11 months.

November retail sales rose 0.2 percent from October and 4.2 percent year-on-year

November retail sales rose 0.2 percent from October and 4.2 percent year-on-year. Total sales for the September 2018 through November 2018 period were up 4.3 percent from the same period of 2017.
