Construction cost increases accompanied by tariff anxiety

Construction costs continue to increase each month along with increased anxiety and even fear about trade disputes and additional tariffs on steel, aluminum and lumber. The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the cost of all goods for construction increased 8.8 percent from May 2017 to May 2018. Some of the largest increases during that period were in diesel fuel, aluminum mill shapes and lumber and plywood.
