Brookfield’s newest active adult development fosters community spirit in San Marcos, Texas
By Abby Pittman
Located in between two of the three most popular cities in Texas, Austin and San Antonio, is one of the fastest growing cities in the state: San Marcos. With a population of over 63 thousand, San Marcos creates the perfect backdrop for Brookfield’s award-winning community Kissing Tree. One of their first active-adult communities, Kissing Tree will include up to 3,200 homes and span around 1,300 acres; it will be one of the largest developments in San Marcos.
Entwined with a unique history, the community name ‘Kissing Tree’ is actually derived from historical figures. According to Tabitha Walsh, Senior Marketing Manager of Kissing Tree, the community name Kissing Tree recalls Sam Houston’s gubernatorial speech in 1857 in front of a mighty oak tree in San Marcos. He famously kissed several of the female attendees on the cheek after the speech, creating a bit of a local legend. “We’ve found that our residents are proud to tell the background of the Kissing Tree name and love having a piece of local history right in their backyard,” Walsh explained. “Kissing Tree is an authentic, historic name and one that’s fiercely local – all of which aligned perfectly with our brand. Positioned as a distinctly Texan community, we wanted to pay tribute to the history of our location.”
You always hear ‘location, location, location’ when it comes to real estate, and developers at Brookfield Residential took that very seriously. Named one of the best places to retire for four years in a row by Forbes, San Marcos is a dynamic community, conveniently located halfway between San Antonio and Austin. “Between its college town charm, amazing scenery, and live music venues, it’s truly one-of-a-kind,” Walsh said.
