U.S. rates make small move higher

U.S. mortgage rates perked up this week, according to Freddie Mac. The 30-year fixed mortgage averaged 4.54 percent for the week ending July 26, up from 4.52 percent the previous week. A year ago, mortgage rates stood at 3.92 percent. Favorable mortgage rates have helped drive U.S. home sales and the refinance market. “The next few months will be key for gauging the health of the housing market,” said Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater.
