October housing starts rose 3.8 percent from September and 8.5 percent year-on-year

Privately‐owned housing starts in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,314,000.  This is 3.8 percent above the revised September estimate of 1,266,000 and is 8.5 percent above the October 2018 rate of 1,211,000.

October building permits rose to 12-year high, up 14.1 percent year-on-year

Privately‐owned housing units authorized by building permits in October were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,461,000, the highest rate in 12 years.  This is also 5.0 percent above the revised September rate of 1,391,000 and is 14.1 percent above the October 2018 rate of 1,281,000.

3Q19 online retail sales grew more than four times overall retail sales year-on-year

Over the past year, online retail sales rose more than four times faster than overall retail sales (or 16.9 percent vs. 4.0 percent).    Between the second and third quarters of 2019, online retail sales rose just under four times faster than overall retail sales (or 5.0 percent vs. 1.4 percent). During 3Q 2019, the percentage share of online retail sales rose 1.2 points year-on-year to 11.2 percent of all retail sales.
