Report Shows Smart Home Tech Helps Seniors Age in Place Across North America

More senior are desiring to age in place and the advancements being made in smart home technology is to be contributing to the transition, according to a Toronto Star article.

Amazon’s Alexa, the Google Assistant and Apple’s Siri are just a few examples of emerging tech available across North America.

It was stated by the U.S. Census Bureau, that the United States is home to 56 million people aged 65 or older, with research from the Urban Institute projecting that this population will increase to 80 million by 2040.

Additionally, it was found in a report that older homeowners are wanting to stay in their homes as they age, with a majority ruling. With Generation X and baby boomers making up 70% of the 84.7 million homeowners in the U.S., 60% of Gen X’ers and 76% of baby boomers are planning to or have already retired in the homes that they already own.
